Amman - Jordan
Located in the heart of Jordan’s capital and the center of Amman’s Shmeisani business and diplomatic district, this project aims to rebrand the distinguished Le Grand Amman hotel, known for its concrete white colored and sloppy facades. The existing building is about 70,000m2 consisting of two towers and a podium. The North Tower, constructed in 1986, now houses 302 guest rooms distributed between levels 1-9; the South Tower, constructed in 2001, now occupies 58 hotel serviced apartments, of which 3% are 1-bedroom handicapped apartments. Recreational areas include an outdoor and an indoor pool, plus a fully-equipped health club and spa. Furthermore, the hotel houses the biggest convention center in Amman, The Royal Convention Center, and a one of a kind 360-degree rooftop that offers views of the city’s skyline from all sides.
Due to the significance of the existing building, and its unique architectural features, a delicate approach for the renovation was required. The biggest challenge in the design was to maintain the historicity of the site whilst creating a sense of individuality. Therefore, the new façade aims to carefully contemporize the prominent horizontal strips of the current façade without steering away from existing features. Since the interior was fully renovated, it was a challenge to keep clear of the existing structure and keep it intact. Despite these challenges, the refurbishment transformed this landmark into a truly remarkable and unique property that still resonates with the people of Amman.
